A Prayer for Strength

A Prayer for Strength

Last week I shared some scriptures about the Lord is my strength. This week I’d like to share a prayer for strength. When we need strength or need strength renewed, we need to look to the Lord. Prayer is extremely powerful and produces results (James 5:16)! This prayer based on scriptures (listed below) will help us to rely on the Lord’s support and remind us that God will supply and renew our strength in times of need.

Here is a prayer for strength that you can pray:

A Prayer for Strength

Lord, I am in need of strength right now. I know that you are my strength and will help me in times of trouble and need and will teach me how to fight. You are the one who gives us strength. Strengthen me and supply me with the energy I need to face anything set before me. Please let your presence strengthen, encourage, restore, and support me. Hold me up and place me on a firm foundation. When I am tested, please give me the strength to endure it.

Empower me with inner strength and give me mental strength and ability. Give me the power and strength needed when I am weak and powerless. Renew my strength when I grow weary, tired, and exhausted. Help me not to rely on my own strength and attempt to do everything myself. Instead, help me to look to you for support. Help me to remember that when I am weak, you are strong and that I have access to your strength and power that will work through me.

Remind me that your power will give me the endurance, patience, and joy I need. I can be strong and courageous when I hope in you and give my cares, anxieties, and burdens to you. You will go before me and you will not fail me nor abandon me. You will guard me from evil. Help me to remember that you are faithful and that in quietness and confidence is my strength. Because of you, Lord, I will go from strength to strength, increasing in victorious power.

Scriptures this prayer was based upon:

God IS our strength.

The Lord is my strength and helps me in times of trouble and need. He will teach us how to fight.

Exodus 15:2, Nahum 1:7, Habakkuk 3:19, Psalm 18:2, Psalm 27:1, Psalm 28:7-8, Psalm 37:39, Psalm 46:1, Psalm 59:16, Psalm 73:26, Psalm 89:17, Psalm 118:14, Psalm 140:7, Psalm 144:1, Isaiah 12:2, Isaiah 49:5, Jeremiah 16:19

God is the one who gives us strength.

God arms us with strength and keeps our way secure. He supplies us with the energy and strength needed to face anything set before us. His presence will strengthen, encourage, restore, support us, and hold us up with his hand and place us on a firm foundation. During the times we are put to test, he gives us the strength to endure it.

1 Chronicles 16:11, 1 Chronicles 29:12, Psalm 18:32, Psalm 29:11, Psalm 33:20, Psalm 68:35, Psalm 138:3, Psalm 139:10, Isaiah 41:10, Daniel 10:19, 1 Corinthians 10:13, Philippians 4:13, 2 Timothy 4:17, 1 Peter 4:11, 1 Peter 5:10

God will empower us with inner strength.

“I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.” Ephesians 3:16 (NLT)

God will give us mental strength and ability.

“Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you.” Luke 10:19 (AMPC)

God gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.

God will give us strength and power when we are weak. He will renew our strength when we grow weary, tired, and exhausted.

“He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:29-31 (NLT)

We are called to be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

We don’t need to rely on our own strength and attempt to do everything ourselves. Instead, we need to look to God for support. When we are weak HE is strong and we have access to HIS strength and power that can work through us in those times. His power will give us the endurance, patience, and joy we need.

“…be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power…” Ephesians 6:10 (NIV)

“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (NLT)

“We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy” Colossians 1:11 (NLT)

We can be strong and courageous when we hope in the Lord and give our cares, anxieties, and burdens to him. He will go before us and will not fail or abandon us. He will give us rest.

“So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the LORD your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 (NLT)

“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (NLT)

“So be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD!” Psalm 31:24 (NLT)

“So here’s what I’ve learned through it all: Leave all your cares and anxieties at the feet of the Lord, and measureless grace will strengthen you.” Psalm 55:22 (TPT)

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 (NLT)

“Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16:13 (NLT)

God is faithful to strengthen us and guard us from the evil one.

“But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.” 2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NLT)

In quietness and confidence is our strength.

“This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength.” Isaiah 30:15a (NLT)

We can go from strength to strength, increasing in victorious power and be blessed.

“Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man whose strength is in You, in whose heart are the highways to Zion. Passing through the Valley of Weeping (Baca), they make it a place of springs; the early rain also fills [the pools] with blessings. They go from strength to strength [increasing in victorious power]; each of them appears before God in Zion.” Psalm 84:5-7 (AMPC)
