Prayer of the Confused

Prayer of the Confused

Prayer of the Confused

I thought I’d do something a little different this week.  Today, I thought I’d share a poem that I wrote back in April 2010.  I wrote it for a close friend of mine who was really confused, struggling and making some poor life choices.  I imagined that I was writing from their perspective and what they would pray.  Most lines are based on several different scriptures (as I often do when writing prayers).

I’m very happy to report that this friend has made some monumental life changes and is now on the right track in their relationship with God! 🙂

Prayer of the Confused

By Tracy Robbins, 4/19/10

I thought that I knew what was best (Prov 12:15)

I’m failing every trial and test (James 1:2, 1 Pet 4:12)

I’m giving in and letting go (Gal 6:9, Acts 14:19-20, 2 Cor 4:1, John 16:33, Heb 10:36, Phil 1:6, John 16:1)

I’m giving up and losing hope

I’ve failed you, Lord and made mistakes

I’m causing pain, hurt & heartaches

I wish I could discern your voice (John 8:47)

I only wanted the best choice

I thought that I knew what was best (Prov 12:5)

I just don’t want any regrets

I need you now to guide me through

I’m back and forth on what to do (James 1:6-8, Eph 4:14)

I need you to open my eyes (Luke 24:31, Psalm 119:18)

I’m blinded by the devil’s lies (John 8:44, 2 Cor 4:4)

Please help me now, I’m in so deep

I pray you, Lord, my soul to keep

Help me to learn and know your Word (Psalms 119:9-11)

Bring to remembrance what I’ve heard (Rom 10:17, John 8:47)

I need your wisdom and your strength (James 1:5, Neh 8:10, Eph 6:10, Psalm 81:1, Phil 4:13)

I know I’ve kept you at arm’s length

I’m ready now to look to you (Psalm 25:15)

Please hold my hand and guide me through (Prov 3:5-6, Psalm 25:5)

I realize you know what is best (Jer 29:11)

You’ll deliver me through this test (Psalm 34:19)

Open my heart to hear your call (John 10:14, John 10:27, John 8:47)

Lord, hold me up so I don’t fall (Psalms 91:1-16)

Help me to fight this fight of faith (1 Tim 6:12, 2 Cor 10:4-5)

Help me stand strong and run the race (2 Tim 4:7)

I thank you, Lord. I trust in you.

You’ll end this trial I’m passing through. (1 Pet 4:12, Psalm 34:19)

Take Some Practical Steps…

Don’t ever stop praying for people in your life.  Prayers are powerful and effective.  Now, I’m not sure if my friend ever actually prayed this prayer or not.  However, I sure was praying for them on a regular basis. Little by little, they came around, and God changed their heart.  If you have loved ones you might like to pray for a need a prayer starter or help, check out some of the prayers below (and remember…prewritten prayers are NOT less heartfelt!):

Prayer For Those Who Make Bad Choices

Prayers for Unsaved Loved Ones

A Prayer for Lost Hope

Prayer to Understand and Experience God’s Love

Prayer to Lead Someone to Christ

I hope you found this helpful in some way!
