Your Gift Will Make Room For You

God gave us our gifts and our talents for a couple of purposes.  One is to point people to Him, which we’ll talk more about later.  Another purpose of our gifts is to bring us prosperity, honor, influence and happiness.  Pretty cool, huh?!  The bible says that your gift will make room for you.  I’d like to encourage you today that God does want you to be Happy, Healthy & Prosperous, and He will use your GIFTS to help you accomplish that!

Your gift will make room for you…your gift is designed to prosper you, to make you money and bring you wealth, and to provide for you. Your gifts were designed to help you make a living.  They will advance you in life and move you forward.  God wants to bless you through your gifts.  In turn, your gifts will be a blessing for other people too.  Your gifts will meet a need, and consequently you will be compensated for that.  It’s a win-win!

It’s pretty cool to me that I actually get to do what I love (teach, write, speak) and get paid for it!  I think for so long I felt like I was just going through the motions in life, in my jobs, and in my roles.  I lacked a sense of purpose.  I think a major factor in that was that I hadn’t discovered my gifts yet and wasn’t fully using them.  I was frustrated because I was operating outside of my gifts.  When I started to discover my God-given gifts and started to use them, joy was an automatic by-product.  Knowing that I was helping others with my gifts and getting paid to do so was a huge bonus!  The proverb that your gift will make room for you started to make a lot of sense to me.

YOUR GIFT WILL MAKE ROOM FOR YOU MEANS THAT IN ADDITION TO ADVANCING THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, YOUR GIFTS & PURPOSE ARE MEANT TO PROSPER YOU AND BRING YOU SUCCESS AND FULFILLMENT.

“A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men.” Proverbs 18:16 (AMP)

“A present [gift] is a precious stone in the eyes of its possessor; Wherever he turns, he prospers.” Proverbs 17:8 (NKJV)

“But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.” Deuteronomy 8:18 (NIV)

When we faithfully operate in our gifts the way God intended (to serve Him and His people), those gifts will bring promotion into our life.  If used right, our gifts will make us prosper, bring honor to us and place us in influential situations.  Our gifts were what God gave us to sustain us.  We were meant to get paid for what we do well!  In other words, our careers and our roles should ideally be something in which we are gifted.  Our jobs should be an instrument that will help us carry out our calling.

Joe McGee said it well when he said, “We’ll be able to prosper by helping others as we live out our God-given purpose.”

NOTE: Keep in mind that God does indeed want us to enjoy the benefits that our gifts bring us (see John 10:10), but the prosperity, honor and influence are also meant to be used to love, help, and serve people for God—to point people back to Him.  We are blessed to BE a blessing!  Our blessings are not meant only to be contained.  God will fill us up with these things so that we can overflow them onto others…think of a pitcher being poured into a cup that is already full and is now overflowing.

In addition to prosperity, honor and influence, I believe that when God says your gift will make room for you, that includes a level of happiness and satisfaction (maybe a little bit of Happy, Healthy & Prosperous! 😉 ).  I believe that God created us to find our greatest satisfaction and happiness in Him and in doing His will for our lives.  When we operate in our gifts in the way God has purposed, it will make us happy.

There’s an old saying that goes “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”  I can’t necessarily say that I agree with that completely.  I LOVE teaching, writing and speaking, but there are days that it really is an awful lot of work.  Parts of it actually kinda suck at times!  Sometimes I have to work with difficult people who make me question my gifts and calling.  However, for the most part, I truly do feel fulfilled, that I’m living with purpose, and I have a tremendous joy and happiness in what I do.

Take Some Practical Steps to Understand that Your Gift Will Make Room for You:

  • Realize that your gifts aren’t just something that you’re good at—they are meant to prosper you! Your gift WILL make room for you and has the potential (when used properly—the way God has intended) to bring you prosperity, honor, influence and happiness.

“A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men.” Proverbs 18:16 (AMP)

  • Don’t get frustrated if your gifts aren’t making you “prosperous” or wealthy yet. Don’t despise your small beginnings.  My start in teaching, writing, and speaking came from initially volunteering (which I still do).  It was a way for me to learn and develop my gifts in these areas.  God may be allowing you to develop and cultivate your gifts more too.  You might still be in “preparation” mode.  Just keep practicing and operating in your gifts, and always try to find ways to get better and improve.

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin…” Zechariah 4:10a (NLT)

  • Try to find ways to use your gifts to be a blessing to others and/or to meet a need. Look for win-win situations…Meet a need using your gift—Get paid for it!  Make sure it’s fair and equitable for both parties, and you will find that it might just snowball into something bigger and bigger!  Also look for ways to serve using your gifts, even if you don’t get paid for it initially.  You never know what it may lead to or turn into.  Others may see what you do then offer to pay for it.

“A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.” 1 Corinthians 12:7 (NLT)

  • Pray and ask God for wisdom on HOW your gift will make room for you. Ask Him to show you some ideas.  Ask Him to reveal to you how you can use your gifts to meet the needs of others, help them and then prosper in return.

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” James 1:5 (NLT)

“We were meant to get paid for what we do well!” – Yes! It’s sad that there are so many people who believe they are stuck doing something that they don’t find any fulfillment in. Life is so much more satisfying and joyful when our work and what we love come together. The Motivated Mom wrote a great post on the Proverbs 18:16 basis and talks about that:

“My gifts will make room for me to close the door to those things that do not align with my core passions and who I am becoming, and allow opportunities that will bring me into a place of wealth. A place that is not determined by a dollar, but by the difference that I make in the lives of others by doing what I am created for, what I am purposed and passionate about doing.”

You can make practical reality of the scripture in (proverbs 18:16) that a Man gifts will make room for him by disciplining and stay focusing on your gift, investing, develop and specialist in your gifts which will indeed make room of prosperity, influence and bring honour to God who gave you those gifts. God bless you for the insight and illumination.
